So here we go..... I was told about 18 years ago by Carl Baumgardner, a real used car salesman and, at the time, the President of Phil-Pet that I would make a good board member...still not sure how he came to that conclusion, but I took the bait and became a board member. I found out right away that there was more to the job than meets the eye. #1042 My thoughts are that a credit union is like a family, especially a small credit union like ours. We make loans, pay dividends, and such, but more than that. Unlike banks, we have more flexibilty to work with members who fall on bad times and need the family's help. We also, sometimes, need a firm hand to get other family members back on track and doing the right thing. Every family member effects the other in some way. This, to me, is what we are about. Family helping family. The world is changing and the smaller credit unions are becoming extinct. The family and personal service credit union is being phased out and taken over by big business credit unions. However, Phil-Pet Federal Credit Union and its' Board of Directors will keep plugging away to keep the family alive and well. Before he passed away, I was priveleged enough to shake the hand of one of the founding fathers of Phil-Pet, Mr. Moore "Cowboy" Jones. This was at the 50 year Annual Meeting. I wondered, while looking and listening to him, what he and a small group of others were thinking when they thought to create the credit union. This to me, would have been overwhelming and more than I could ever imagine. Thank the Lord for men and women like him who have such courage. You will need to read your quarterly newsletter and look for your account number. (Example- #0000) If you find your number then call us at the office ((806)669-6044) and tell us that you have found your account number in the newsletter, and Phil-Pet will deposit $5 into your savings account! #640 |
